Financial Advisor FAQ's

  • How much do financial services cost?

This can vary from firm to firm. Some firms even sell products which earn them commissions. Alpha Fiduciary is a fee-only firm, so your costs are transparent for all services. We do not receive payments from any third party, so we can act as a true fiduciary.

  • How do I know if my financial advisor/wealth manager is a good fit?

You don’t want just anyone managing your wealth or finances. You need someone who is experienced at handling your specific type of financial situation. For example, if you’re a high net-worth client, your wealth manager should be expert in managing large amounts of wealth (including trusts, sophisticated transfer strategies, concentrated positions, etc.) and not just small accounts.

In addition, you may want to ensure your wealth manager holds certain designations such as Charted Financial Analyst (CFA®, Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA®, Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), and the like. While no designation guarantees a good fit for your situation, the above indicate expert knowledge you may benefit from, and professionals listing these marks are required to adherence to certain training and ethical standards.

  • How often should I meet with my financial advisor?

You should never approach financial planning or wealth management with a set-it-and-forget-it mentality. Managing your wealth – finances, investments, strategies – demands ongoing reviews. You should be receiving regular updates on your wealth plan so that you know you’re on the right track. And you should also contact your financial advisor when there’s a major change in your life because your personal circumstances can directly affect the recommendations your financial advisor might give you.

  • What is a fiduciary financial advisor/financial planner?

A fiduciary financial advisor or financial planner carries a legal responsibility to put your needs and interests ahead of the advisor’s and firm’s own interests. Fiduciary advisory firms build portfolios that reflect their clients’ specific needs without regard to product-based compensation. A non-fiduciary advisor (such as a broker) must only be concerned about the suitability of an investment; this is a much lower standard than that of a fiduciary advisor and can mean that the broker is recommending “suitable” products that also earn the broker healthy commissions.

Alpha Fiduciary is a fee-only fiduciary advisor and financial planner who does not earn commissions from any product recommendations.

  • Should I find a financial planner that lives close to me?

This is a matter of preference. Technology today affords a level of personal interaction even when multiple parties are not in the same room. Alpha Fiduciary is happy to serve clients right here in the Phoenix / Scottsdale area or anywhere in the United States.
